Hypnosis: less than meets the eye?
The cartoon image of hypnosis always involves spinning eyes and a pendulum but does hypnosis actually affect eye movements? A case study by Kallio et al., 2011 showed abnormal eye movements in a highly hypnotizable subject. We we curious if we could replicate this finding in a larger sample of low and high hypnotizable participants. In our paper we show that eye movements were not a reliable indicator of the “hypnotic state” (Cardeña, Nordhjem, Marcusson-Clavertz, & Holmqvist, 2017).
